My first candle · The essential guide to making candles at home (PDF)
Description
Everything you need to make scented candles at home, in 20 pages
Making a candle is not hard. Making the same candle twice is. This guide gathers the essentials of what we teach in our Barcelona workshops, and quite a bit more: the whole process, the maths and the judgement to make your second candle better than the first.
No "magic temperatures" and no industry secrets: we explain what happens with each decision so you can choose.
What's inside
- The candle in nine steps: from an empty jar to a cured candle, with the numbers of a real one.
- The recipe: how much wax your jar takes and how much fragrance goes in, with a reference table.
- What you need, and what you don't: what to buy, what is already in your kitchen and what you must never use.
- The wick: how to choose the size and what the flame is telling you.
- Temperatures for mixing and pouring, and what changes at each end.
- Wax: soy, rapeseed, coconut, paraffin, beeswax. Which one suits you.
- Fragrance: how much to use and why a candle sometimes doesn't smell.
- Defects: marks, cracks and sinkholes. What they are and how to avoid them.
- The burn test: how to know a candle is safe and burns well.
- Two printable sheets: the recipe sheet and the burn-test sheet.
How you get it

It’s a wonderful and very elegant studio where candle-making and jewelry-making workshops are held. We celebrated my daughter’s birthday here, and everything was excellent. I’ll definitely be back.

Very kind. They explained the technique to us with great patience, didn’t mind leaving later, and wanted us to take the finished jewelry home. A delight.
